G20 leaders remain divided over the Syrian conflict as they enter the final day of their Russian summit.

Italian PM Enrico Letta said the splits were confirmed during a working dinner in St Petersburg on Thursday.
A spokesman for the Russian presidency said a US strike on Syria would "drive another nail into the coffin of international law".

At the UN, the US ambassador accused Russia of holding the Security Council hostage by blocking resolutions.
Samantha Power said the Security Council was no longer a "viable path" for holding Syria accountable for war crimes.

Syria crisis: US Senate committee backs use of force

A US Senate panel has approved the use of military force in Syria, in response to an alleged chemical weapons attack.
By 10-7, the Committee on Foreign Relations moved the measure to a full Senate vote, expected next week.The proposal allows the use of force in Syria for 60 days with the possibility to extend it for 30 days. It prevents the use of US troops on the ground.

President Barack Obama is battling to build support at home and abroad for military action.

Despite Wednesday's vote, the bill's ultimate fate in the wider Senate is unclear. And the US House of Representatives must also approve the measure.

A 34 YEAR OLD MAN SEXUALLY HARASS A 12 YEAR OLD GIRL

The Enugu Magistrate Court, yesterday, remanded one Monday Okoye, 34, of Obuofia, in Awgu Local Government Area of the state in prison custody over alleged rape of a 12-year-old girl.
 The police in Enugu had arraigned Okoye before the court over alleged offence.

The prosecutor, Mr  Peter Eze, told the court that the matter was reported to the state Criminal Investigation Department on August 11.

Eze said the rape victim was absent in the court because she was hospitalised following the injury she sustained from the rape.

This came as theDepartment of State Services, DSS, yesterday, handed over Daniel to the Edo State Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development but denied the mother, Mrs. Evelyn Oikhena, access to her son.

Jigawa Sugar Factory to starts full operation in 2015

The Jigawa state multi million Naira Hadejia Sugar Factory will commence full operations in 2015 and it will employ about 3,256  indigenes of Hadejia emirate.

The company’s Director of Engineers, Malam Umar Sanda stated this while conducting newsmen round the  sugar factory premises, said the decision of the family to take over the company was aimed at providing employment opportunity to the teeming indigenes of Hadejia emirate and Jigawa state in general.

He however stated that the family of the Late Abacha  will purchase of new equipments to enable them commence operation soonest, adding that the management of Hadejia River Bsin Development Authority has also  pledged to provide 4,000 hectares of land for the production of sugarcane that will be used in for the production of sugar.

Vanguard reports that, the Hadejia sugar factory was constructed by former Governor Ibrahim Saminu Turaki with the aim of  producing 1,500 metric tones of sugar daily, as Hadejia emirate is among the major producer of sugarcane in the state but the present government sold it to the family of Late Nigeria’s dictator General Sani Abacha at the cost of N980 million

TWO PASTORS ARRESTED OVER PIPELINE VANDALISM

THIRTY suspected pipeline vandals, among them, two pastors and two teenagers were, weekend, arrested by officials of the Ogun State command of the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC, in Isheri Olofin area of the state.

The suspects, according to the Commandant, Mr Akinwande Aboluwoye, were arrested after a shoot-out.
