Lagos indigenes to hold mass protest today over 2015 elections

Ahead of 2015 poll, a group, Committee of Lagos State Indigenes (CIALS), is set to stage a mass protest today in the state.

The Nigerian Tribune gathered that the group, led by retired judge, resolved to hold the protest to compel all the political parties, including the All Progressives Congress (APC) and Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to field only full-blooded Lagosians as candidates, eyeing governorship and senate seats.

According to findings, the demand of the group, which will lead to street protest at the Governor’s Office and the Lagos State House of Assembly, Alausa, Ikeja is that indigenes of Lagos are no longer prepared to have non indigenes rule over them as governor or senators.

The group, in a message made available to Nigerian Tribune stated that: “Committee of Lagos Indigenes will be out this week to protest the need for the emergence of full indigene of Lagos as party candidates.”

A source confided in Nigerian Tribune that the message, which the group wanted to pass across is that come 2015, any political party desirous of their votes must ensure that it fields full-blooded indigenes as their governorship and senatorial candidates.

“What the group is demanding is that no more are Lagos indigenes prepared to have outsiders preside over their affairs as governor or senators. They are saying that enough is enough. They are saying that whoever is not a full-blooded indigene, but claim that only their fathers or mothers take root in Lagos should forget that they have such ambition to be anything near governor or senator,” the source said.
