SO ALARMING! NDLEA Reveals That 14.03kg Of Prohibited Drugs Seized In 3 Months At Lagos Airport

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA) Command, has seized read more...... 14.03 kilogrammes of controlled and prohibited drugs between May and July.
Mr Jonah Achema, the spokesperson of the command, who disclosed this on Wednesday in a statement in Lagos, noted that 19 suspects were arrested in connection with the seizures.
Achema said that the seizures were made within three months preceding the Federal Government’s Executive Order on “Ease of Doing Business” at the airport.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the executive order was given in April.
He said the seized drugs consisted of 2.57 kilogrammes of cocaine, 5.10 kilogrammes of Heroin and 6.61 kilogrammes of methamphetamine.
Others are 73.44 kilogrammes of ephedrine and 66.30 kilogrammes of cannabis sativa.
Also, Achema debunked a recent media report, alleging cases of extortion by some officers of the NDLEA at the airport.
He described the report as a campaign of calumny aimed at distracting the agency from doing its job.
He stated that the NDLEA Act mandates the agency to have an operational presence at all entry and exit points, including MMIA.
“NDLEA officers are not in violation of the Executive Order.
“The agency has never and will never shield any officer found wanting if there is any established evidence of misconduct against such person.
“The agency, no doubts, sees the media as a critical stakeholder in the efforts to dismantle drug trafficking networks and defeat the criminal drug entrepreneurs.
“It is through a mutually reinforcing relationship between the agency and the media that this goal can be achieved,’’ Achema said.
