Economic recession: traditional chief seek for more skills

THE Lagos State Government has churned out another 206 graduates’ under its skill acquisition programme with Chief Jimoh Olukosi, the Baale-elect for Agiliti Community in Ketu axis among the participants. Olukosi, in his 50s, was adjudged one of the best graduates in paint production after the two weeks programme organized by Ikosi-Isheri Local Council Development Area, LCDA.

The Baale-elect, after receiving a certificate from the council Sole Administrator, Mr. Abdul Adewale, explained that the reason he embarked on the training was to avoid being caught in the mire of economic recession. He added that the aim was “to be independent and not to wait for gifts from anyone or my children before I can cater for my needs.”
Other vocations included in the empowerment exercise were: Soap and disinfectant production, paint production, Adire production, Fabric design, Makeup and Gele, Gift items production and Notebook production. On the reason for the empowerment exercise, the sole administrator explained that the exercise could not have been organized at any other time than now, “when the country is experiencing economic recession.” He stated that the poverty eradication programme was also in fulfillment of the campaign promises of the All Progressive Congress (APC) to Nigerians. Adewale added that, with the successful completion of training by the beneficiaries in seven different vocations indicated that they have transited from job seekers to job providers. In order to aid the trainees, the Sole Administrator disclosed that the council has registered them on a business service provider website, where people from all parts of the world can contact them for their services. Earlier in her address, the representative of the Director of Employment, Lagos State Ministry of Wealth Creation and Employment, Mrs. Iyabo Seriki-Bello, assured that the state government would intensify its efforts to eradicate poverty among residents of the state.
