In WARRI—SIX Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, aspirants for the chairmanship position in Ughelli South Local Government, Delta State, have given the state Deputy Governor, Professor Amos Utuama and the party caucus in the area, a 48-hour to reverse the choice of Mr. Paul Etega as the flag-bearer, following the primaries held penultimate Saturday ahead of the council polls.

In a statement yesterday, the aggrieved aspirants, Dr. Amos Itihwe, Princess Josephine Oduaran, Vincent Otidi, Godspower Muemuifo, Andrew Adushoke and Monday Emuvakpor, described the emergence of Etega as broad day robbery, calling on the deputy governor, who hails from the locality, to intervene.

“We never bought nomination forms for some persons to sit at a parlour and hand-pick a candidate. The PDP leader in Ughelli South locality, Professor Utuama and the party caucus in the area must take urgent steps to address the undemocratic situation we have found ourselves. We are not going to accept this broad day robbery.”

According to them, PDP caucus members in Ughelli South had invited them for a meeting on August 6, three days to the PDP primaries to address the aspirants, but claimed they were never allowed to speak at the meeting as they were asked to go back home with a promise that they would be contacted.
They claimed that nobody got to them, but they were later told that Etega had been picked as the chairmanship candidate.
