20% of Kogi teachers speak bad English, can’t write own names

Lokoja -  Mr Ndamadu Ali, the Kogi Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs said on Wednesday that more than  20 per cent of public primary school teachers in the state speak bad English.

Ali made the disclosure while submitting the report of the Committee on biometric data and Certificate verification of the teaching and non-teaching staff to Gov. Idris Wada in Lokoja.

HEARING in the suit over who gets the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, ticket between Tony Nwoye and Andy Uba for the November 16, 2013 governorship election in Anambra State continues today at the Federal High Court sitting in Port Harcourt, Rivers State.

The Ejike Oguebego’s faction of the PDP in Anambra State, which elected Chief Andy Uba as the party’s candidate is in court to challenge the decision of the National Working Committee, NWC, to recognise Ken Emeakayi’s faction which produced Mr. Tony Nwoye as the flagbearer.

A 27 year old Boy Raped a 60 year Old Woman

The Ado-Ekiti Magistrate Court in Ekiti State, yesterday, remanded one Akintunde Omotehinde, 27, in prison custody for allegedly raping his 60-year-old mother.

Prosecutor Ebenezer Ewuola told the court that the accused committed the offence on August 23, in Ajebamidele Area of Ado-Ekiti.

He claimed that the accused ‘forcefully and unlawfully’ had carnal knowledge of his mother, which led to her being hospitalised.

National Association of Aircraft Pilots and Engineers, NAAPE, has criticised the award of scholarship to stowaway teenager, Daniel Oikhena, by the Governor Rauf Aregbesola Foundation.

The association contended , yesterday, that it was wrong to make hero out of the boy.

It will be recalled that on Saturday, August 24, 2013, the teenager successfully breached the security of the Benin Airport, operated by Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria, FAAN, and managed to stowaway at the wheel well of an Arik aircraft on a flight from Benin to Lagos.
The boy was apprehended when he came out of the wheel well on landing in Lagos.

Syria's Assad says US has no proof of chemical weapons use

Syrian President Bashar al-Assad has told a US broadcaster there is "no evidence" that his government has used chemical weapons.

In the interview with PBS, to be aired on Monday, he also suggested his allies would retaliate if the West attacked.

US Secretary of State John Kerry has been lobbying hard for military action against Mr Assad during talks with EU and Arab foreign ministers in Europe.

Police arrest five for kidnap, raping of teenager

Men of the Benue State Police Command have arrested a three-man gang, which allegedly kidnapped and raped a 15-year-old girl in Makurdi, the Benue State capital.

Also nabbed by the command was a two-man robbery gang, which specialised in dispossessing their victims of their Ipads and computers.

Robert Robson, the Lowry artistic director dies at 58

The Lowry chief executive Julia Fawcett said he died suddenly on Friday.
