ABAKALIKI—CONTRARY to insinuations in some quarters that the Ministry of Agriculture has stopped the payment of Consolidated Health Salary Structure, CONHESS, to National Youth Service Corps, NYSC, members posted to the Ministry because it wanted monetary inducements from them, the state government last weekend declared that the stoppage was done because of lack of approval.

Police arrest five for kidnap, raping of teenager

Men of the Benue State Police Command have arrested a three-man gang, which allegedly kidnapped and raped a 15-year-old girl in Makurdi, the Benue State capital.

Also nabbed by the command was a two-man robbery gang, which specialised in dispossessing their victims of their Ipads and computers.

Anglican Archbishop abducted at Gunmen in Port-Harcourt

An unknown gunmen in Rivers State, on Friday night, abducted Archbishop Ignatius Kattey, the Dean of the Anglican Communion in Nigeria and Archbishop, Niger Delta North Diocese. The victim was said to have been whisked away with his wife, Beatrice, by the kidnappers around Aleto Bridge, Eleme at about 10.30pm while on his way to Port Harcourt.

Sources close to the archbishop said he was driving to Port Harcourt to pass the night there so he could be at the airport to receive the Primate of the church, Primate Nicolas Oko, who was due in the state Saturday.

Ghana's dead whales: Oil linked denied

Ghana has dismissed accusations that oil operations could have caused the deaths of several whales washed up on beaches over the past week.

A local environmental group said that the whales had only started to appear since oil production began in 2009.

The Friends of the Nation group called for a full enquiry into the deaths.

Oil firms refused to comment but the Environment Protection Agency said there were no links between the oil industry and the beached whales.
